Do energy companies care what we think?

The last month has been characterised by soaring energy prices resulting from sanctions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Although it's made everyone acutely aware of the dependence on fossil fuel imports, it's made many really question our relationship with our energy providers, and whether there should be state intervention to manage this relationship. Why do energy firms still make profit while many households can't afford their new bills?
